Edwards Papers

The Edwards Papers (1974-1996) are divided into two sections:

• Biographical information and correspondence including Edwards' resume, his obituary and correspondence regarding his professional contributions to the China Sexology Association and the Institute for Research in Sexuality and Gender at Renmin University (China).

• His manuscripts consist of research papers completed while studying for his MA in East Asian Studies (Stanford), MPH (Tulane), doctoral work in medical anthropology (Columbia), and papers presented at sex-related conferences including meetings of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sex and the China Sexology Association. Edwards' primary focus of research was in East Asian sexuality. Of particular interest to Edwards were homosexuality, prostitution, and STDs in China. In addition, much of his writings deal with research into the subject of koro (also known as suoyang), a medical/psychological condition where the patient fears retraction of the genitals. Other writings include publications on penis inserts, penis size, and mail order sex pills.
