Photocopy and Scanning Policy

The copyright law of The United States and the copyright guidelines of Indiana University Libraries are followed. In addition The Kinsey Institute does not photocopy entire copyrighted works except in the case of "fair use." Permission to photocopy an entire copyrighted work must be secured in writing by the requester or proof obtained that copyright has expired.

The Kinsey Institute reserves the right to refuse to photocopy:

• Fragile materials.
• Unique and/or rare materials including original materials.
• More than 10 percent of an item if, in the opinion of library staff, the item would be damaged.
• Unpublished works of living authors and/or of deceased authors without written permission from the author or executor of the estate, respectively.
• Confidential materials.
• Any materials, the duplication of which, in the judgment of Institute staff, would not be in the best interest of the Institute.

Patrons must obtain permission to photocopy. Library staff will evaluate and give permission to photocopy or suggest scanning. Scanning is done by staff only.

Fees:

• By patron - $.15
• By staff - $.30
• Special handling - $1-$3
• Digital scan - $2 plus $5 for CD stock and $10 handling (per order).
