Instrument Comparison Study

DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this study is to compare and assess the validity and usability of two psychophysiological measures of sexual arousal for women: vaginal blood flow using photoplethysmographs and labial temperature using thermistors.

Although the vaginal photoplethysmograph has been used rather extensively as a measure of sexual arousal in women, several problems with the instrument exist. Many of these problems could be addressed by an instrument that measures temperature change in the labia minora: the labial thermistor.

The study will be conducted in Dr. Heiman's laboratory in the Psychology building in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences of Indiana University, Bloomington.

FINDINGS:

Ongoing data collection.
